School of Trades, Phase 1-2, Saint-Hyacinthe

The project’s response to the stated request is both simple and expressive. The first phase of the project aligns workshops and classrooms on one aide of an ample and long gallery to be used for exchanges, circulation and rest. The gallery’s design enhances the sense of society for students and teachers with a common space under an articulated roof.

The second phase is connected to one of the gallery’s endings. Its design is in strong contrast to the linearity of the first phase. In response to programmatic needs for large agriculture and automotive workshops, the extension is modeled as a broad and open volume.

The project incorporates energy efficiency considerations, such as air recirculation, geothermal power and solar wall.
